OUR TOP 6 CHRISTMAS TAPROOMS THIS DECEMBER

Top 6 Brewery Taprooms this Christmas

Top 6 Brewery Taprooms this Christmas 1080 1080 hello_admin

Our top 6 brewery taprooms to visit this December in the lead-up to Christmas. We’re talking festive beer and cheer this winter!

To qualify for this list, the taprooms had to meet some festive benchmarks:

  1. Each taproom had to be featured in our 2023 passport, which is still valid throughout December and can be purchased here
  2. Indoor space – let’s face it, it can get pretty cold this time of year so we’re only looking at those taprooms that can provide us a little shelter from the elements.
  3. Decorations – it’s not festive without decorations!

Beer Passport's guide to some of the best Beer Gardens

BEER GARDEN SEASON IS HERE!

BEER GARDEN SEASON IS HERE! 1080 1080 hello_admin

It’s the bank holiday season! And that means it’s Beer Garden season!

As the weather improves and the days get longer, there’s nothing quite like a crisp, refreshing beer out in the sun. Here at Beer Passport, we’re big fans of the noble British tradition of stubbornly sitting outside in low double-digit temperatures to sip a cold drink. Beer Passport London 2023 is loaded with craft beer taprooms and beer gardens. And with that in mind, here are a few of our favourites.

Two Tribes Campfire

Based near Kings Cross, Two Tribes is born out of collaboration, celebrating their twin passions of music and beer. The Campfire venue is centred around an open firepit, where chefs serve up great food to a backdrop of visiting musicians and DJs.

Beer Passport offer: Buy one, get one free

Beer Passport recommends: Dream Factory, 4.4% IPA

Wimbledon Brewery

SW19’s second most famous landmark is surely the Wimbledon Brewery taproom, a party paradise just a few minutes walk from Colliers Wood station.

You’ll find live sports, festivals, and comedy nights, as well as delicious beer and award-winning gin. As always when the summer arrives, it’s time to go to Wimbledon!

Beer Passport offer: Buy one, get one free (plus 10% off drinks all year round)

Beer Passport recommends: Wimbledon Lager, 4.8% Lager

Gipsy Hill Brewing Company

Located around 5 minutes walk from Gipsy Hill station, you’ll find fresh Gipsy Hill beers on draft alongside guest cask, wine, spirits, and plenty of lo/no alcohol options. There are also delicious food options, with local street food vendors on rotation, plus free delivery from Yardsale Pizza every day.

Beer Passport offer: Buy one, get one free (plus 10% off drinks all year round)

Beer Passport recommends: Hunter, 4.8% Helles Lager

Signature Brewery – Blackhorse Road

There are a few beer gardens up on Blackhorse Road (check out Beer Passport’s Blackhorse Road taproom trail right here), with Signature probably being the biggest.

There’s ample seating (with heaters that prove useful as the evening goes on), where you can enjoy tremendous beers, great musicians and comedians, and a mouth-watering selection of burgers, wings, and loaded fries.

Beer Passport offer: Buy one, get one free

Beer Passport recommends: Backstage, 5.6% IPA

40FT Brewery

Located in Dalston, 40FT were originally 2 x 20ft shipping containers. They’ve now expanded to a beautiful sprawling brewery and taproom. Tucked away off the main high street, you can’t miss this belting sun trap of a taproom on those warmer days.

Beer Passport offer: Buy one, get one free (plus 10% off drinks all year round)

Beer Passport recommends: Dalton Sunrise, 4.4% Hazy Pale Ale

So, what are you waiting for?! Grab your passport and get down those beer gardens! Haven’t got your Beer Passport yet? Head to our shop here and get yours now!

APRIL NEWSLETTER

APRIL NEWSLETTER 1080 1080 hello_admin

Greetings beer travellers!

Welcome back to the Beer Passport newsletter! We hope that you had an egg-cellent Easter (get it?) and enjoyed a long weekend of crisp beers in some of the fine brewery taprooms we have across London.

Beer Passport community event

On Saturday 25 th February, we had a fantastic Beer Passport community event. We visited three taprooms – starting out at The Five Points Brewing Co-, then heading up to Hackney Church Brew Co, before finishing next door at Deviant & Dandy – sinking some delicious craft beers and having a wonderful time with our growing Beer Passport community. Keep your eyes open for the next event – most likely in May or June.

Taproom Trails

In our last newsletter, we announced the launch of our Beer Passport Taproom Trails. Well, you asked for more and at Beer Passport HQ we are happy to deliver. We’re delighted to announce that we have FOUR more taproom trails for you, so check these out here. They are:
Camden to Islington (4 taprooms, 2 miles)
Brixton (4 taprooms, 0.7 miles)
Deptford & Greenwich (3 taprooms, 2.5 miles)
South Bermondsey (3 taprooms, 0.7 miles)
And we’re not quite done, so keep an eye out on that page and our social media channels for more Taproom Trails in the future.

Brewery News

You may have already seen that Boxcar Brewery is currently going through a transitional phase. This means they have closed down their taproom and webshop for now. The company still remains and we are hopeful to see them back serving some of those mind-blowingly good beers again and stamping your passports soon. Keep an eye out on social media for updates and make sure you’re following @boxcar_brewery on Instagram.

Our own stamp collections

We’re continuing to work on our own Beer Passport stamp collections, with a few visits to taprooms recently. At the end of March, we went down to Nine Elms to visit two of our favourite breweries – Mondo Brewing and Distortion Brewing Company. Phil was a huge fan of Distortion’s Phaser IPA, a lovely sessionable beer that will leave you wanting more. Mike’s favourite was Mondo’s Little Victories Session IPA, which comes with plenty of hop while still being easy drinking. We’d like to say a big hello and thank you to @bestofbeerlondon, who we bumped into at Distortion. Please give him a follow on Instragram to stay up to date with the latest London beer news.

Help us out?

At BP HQ we’re trying to make some upgrades to our website to make it more attractive and user-friendly. This includes creating a fun introductory video, organizing our Taproom Trails, and smartening up the customer journey. If you are a web-designer, marketer, or video-maker and you think you can help us, please drop us a note at hello@beerpassport.co.uk.

That’s all our Craft Beer news for now. Summer is around the corner and we can’t wait to see you all filling up those taprooms! Don’t forget to tag us on our social media when you’re getting your Beer Passport stamped!

HAPPY NEW BEER!

HAPPY NEW BEER! 1080 1080 hello_admin

Happy New Beer!

Welcome to the inaugural Beer Passport newsletter! We hope that 2023 is off to a fantastic start for all of you. And to those of you doing Dry January, we raise a respectful glass and look forward to seeing you back in the taprooms on 1st February.

Back to work…

It’s been a busy start to the year, here at Beer Passport HQ, setting everything up for your beer adventures in 2023. Our big news is the launch of Taproom Trails, giving Passport holders an itinerary of taprooms to sample a variety of beers and get a few stamps in your passport. Check out our Blackhorse Road, North Bermondsey trails here. And we have a few more Trails in the works as well, so keep an eye out for those on our social media channels.

Date for your diaries…

We’ve also been organizing our next Beer Passport community event. Plans are still being finalized but we’re aiming for Saturday 25th February, most likely in Hackney. We’ll confirm everything and share the details on social media soon.

Importance of work-life balance…

It hasn’t all been work though because Phil and Mike have managed to get to 4 taprooms so far this year. A couple of weeks ago we went to Deptford to visit SALT and Villages, and last week we headed south to visit Brixton Brewery and London Beer Lab. These are 4 great taprooms, all new to Beer Passport for 2023.

Phil tends to go for Lagers and Session IPAs, so recommends SALT Jute and LBL’s Kaiser Pils. Mike is more of a Pale Ale man, the hazier the better, and was keen on Rodeo (from Villages) and Brixton’s Electric IPA. Be careful with that last one though – 6% beers on a work night might affect your productivity in the morning! But we both thought that the pizzas at SALT were excellent, so you should absolutely coincide your visit there with lunch or dinner time.

Not all good news…

Unfortunately, we do have some disappointing news to share with you. One Mile End and Solvay Society – two long-time Beer Passport friends – have been forced to close. It’s a tough time for the brewing industry, with rising raw material costs, energy costs, and a cost-of-living crisis for customers. One of the best things you can do to help out is to go straight to source for your beers by visiting your local taprooms. And of course, it helps that this is where the beer is always freshest.

And finally…

We are delighted to announce our 2022 Beer Passport competition winner – Laura Prescott!

Laura managed to visit a phenomenal 48 out of the possible 50 taprooms – and would have hit all 50 but for some unfortunate closures. It’s a spectacular effort, so massive congratulations from Beer Passport HQ.

Laura said: “Thanks to the guys at Beer Passport who have set up this fantastic idea of visiting London breweries. We’ve been to some amazing breweries throughout the year that we’d never even heard of, and they’ve all been brilliant! I’d highly recommend it for anyone who likes drinking beer and saving money at the same time!!!”
